Calling anyone that’s craving movement! The momentous 10th annual Let’s Move Commit to Change Physical Activity Challenge is back to motivate Palm Beach County residents of all ages to get up and get moving from March 1-31. Presented by Digital Vibez, Inc. and Palm Health Foundation, Let’s Move is a month-long, free activity challenge that encourages individuals and teams to participate by completing and logging 30 minutes of physical activity every day in March. In 2021, Palm Beach County logged more than 59 million minutes!
Leading the challenge will be Digital Vibez, a nonprofit organization that has gone viral for their dedication to empowering youth through dance fitness, technology, and the arts. Not only will they be offering high-energy, innovative events and activities for local adults and youth, but they will also be posting follow-along dance videos for all to enjoy in addition to creating content for senior citizens to participate in during the month of March.
All residents are invited to form teams, commit to exercising at least 30 minutes a day throughout the month of March, and log their minutes on the Let’s Move website. A calendar full of free, public virtual and in-person activities will constantly be updated on LetsMovePBC.org to encourage residents to keep moving toward their goals all month long. Each Palm Beach County city will host their own unique kick-off events with the largest opening event taking place in The Village of Wellington, last year’s winning team with over 26 million minutes logged, on March 1st at the Wellington Amphitheater.
“We’re celebrating a decade of helping people reach their goals, so you better believe this year is going to offer the most unique, high-energy programs yet,” said Wilford Romelus, founder of Digital Vibez. “Our team is excited to help everyone from kids to senior citizens find inspiration through fitness while also focusing on all four areas of health: physical, social, emotional and mental. Our hope is that by leading this program, we can help the community start a gradual commitment to physical activity that can eventually lead to a lifelong habit.”
Teams will have the opportunity to enter for a chance to win weekly prizes on social media which will incentivize residents to meet their daily movement goals and aim for the highest number of collective minutes logged at the end of the month. A $1,000 grant will be awarded to the top team and school site/community-based/youth-focused program that logs the most minutes to support their physical activity programming.
Let’s Move was first launched in 2012 by Palm Health Foundation, Palm Beach County’s leading community foundation for health. Inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama’s 2010 Let’s Move national program to decrease childhood obesity, the foundation created the local challenge for adults and children to improve a variety of health issues through regular physical activity. The challenge promotes that daily exercise combats illnesses like diabetes and heart disease, and strengthens brain health and life expectancy, among other benefits.
“Not only are we celebrating a decade of hosting this county-wide community health campaign that engages all ages in better health practices, but the foundation is also marking our twenty-year anniversary which is a milestone in itself,” said Patrick McNamara, president and CEO of Palm Health Foundation. “Physical activity is vital to overall health and wellness, and we look forward to continuing to build a local culture of health by motivating our residents to ‘move’ their way into the best version of themselves.”
Let’s Move will kick off on March 1st at 4 p.m. with an in-person event at the Wellington Amphitheater, and via Facebook Live (https://www.facebook.com/DigitalVibezInc ) and YouTube. Teams that log the highest number of minutes by March 31st, and several other awardees, will be recognized at a community celebration at the end of the challenge on April 8th at Cox Science Center and Aquarium in West Palm Beach.
Team registration for the Let’s Move challenge is now open at www.letsmovepbc.org, and nothing would be possible without the help of FPL, a Let’s Move sponsor.
