Palm Health Foundation, Palm Beach County’s community foundation for health, has appointed Ernest Dumenigo as accounting and grants coordinator. In his role, Dumenigo will administer and oversee financial and grantmaking systems and processes to advance the $100 million foundation’s philanthropic mission to inspire and fund solutions for better health through community collaboration.

He also brings a commitment to nonprofit service as a volunteer with the Drowning Prevention Coalition, the Youth Firesetters Program, and Lady Gators Softball.

“Ernest has an exceptional background in finance and public service that is a perfect match for optimizing our operations and our relationships with grantee partners as we deliver on our new strategic plan, which centers humanizing health in Palm Beach County,” said Patrick McNamara, president and CEO of Palm Health Foundation. “His volunteer experience is an asset as we focus our grantmaking and strategic initiatives on honoring the human experience and prioritize listening to the voices of our neighbors.”

Dumenigo, a Palm Springs resident, holds a Master of Science in Applied Kinesiology and Physiology from the University of Florida, and bachelor’s degrees in Exercise Science and Health Promotion and Business Administration in Finance from Florida Atlantic University. Palm Health Foundation behavioral health scholarship recipient Beatriz Moreno remembers the first time she was made aware that she was a first-generation student. “I was applying to colleges in my junior year of high school with my high school counselor and I had to answer what level of education my parents had completed,” said the Argentine American scholar. “As I sat there, I realized that neither of my parents had completed a college degree in the United States. I was the eldest child to start that journey.” It was the beginning of her educational pursuit to combine her interest in behavioral health with her passion for helping people from Hispanic cultures. “Stigma surrounds mental health in the Hispanic community,” she said. “It prevents people from receiving the proper supports, especially when acculturating to a new way of life. And it affects their children.”
